St. Martin Parish Has World-Class Museums
St. Martin Parish has a rich cultural history, much of which has been carefully preserved in our museums. Below are just a few of the museums and historic sites that should be visited. For more, visit our tourism department.

Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site
The historic site interprets the cultural relationship among the diverse peoples along the Bayou Teche, including Acadians, Creoles, Indians, Africans, Frenchmen, slaves and free people of color and their contribution to history.
Acadian Memorial Museum
Located in St. Martinville, the Acadian Memorial Museum highlights the Acadian people through original murals of the arrival of the Acadians, a Wall of Names, memorial garden, audio tour that walks you through the historical events of the Acadian people.
Vermilionville Historic Village
The Living History Museum and Folklife Park offers endless experiences for each visitor to gain a deeper appreciation for the culture, history and natural resources of the Acadians, Native Americans, Creoles and people of African descent. Educational experiences include guided and self-guided tours, school presentations and demonstrations on a variety of essential crafts by local artisans.

Alexandre Mouton House
The Alexandre Mouton House originally consisted of one large room with a kitchen in the back and was constructed by Jean Mouton in 1800. Mouton was one of the first settlers of Southwest Louisiana. As a treasured piece of Lafayette history, the house has a rich narrative and is cared for by a dedicated group of local women.

Hilliard Art Museum
Located on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus, the Hilliard Art Museum showcases paintings, art displays and sculptures created by both local and international artists. The mission of the museum is for guests to truly see art and connect with it. Guided tours with customized learning experiences are available for all ages.

African-American Museum
The African-American Museum walks through the arrival of the Africans and the development of the free people of color community in Southwest Louisiana. The museum thoughtfully interprets their struggles, adaptations and contributions with emphasis on the 18th and 19th centuries. History is told through the work of artists.
