St. Martin Parish Has a Rich History

St. Martin Parish is steeped in history that has built the foundation for what the area is today. In the 1700s, St. Martin Parish was the earliest arrival destination for exiled Acadian families from Nova Scotia and France. It also fosters the story of African-American slavery to freedom in the rural South. These expeditions are woven into South Louisiana’s unique heritage. The history and culture of St. Martin Parish is preserved and celebrated through the many museums, live music, year round festivals and observances.
